Sarah Scofield
Sarah Scofield focuses her New York and Colorado practice on estate planning for individuals, multi-generational families, and closely-held businesses, and provides strategic counsel on real estate transactions, business succession, and expansion. Sarah adopts an integrated, collaborative approach, working closely with her clients' advisors to ensure comprehensive family estate planning, stewardship, and business strategies.
Sarah has effectively managed estates of varying sizes, collaborating closely with the trust departments of banks and representing clients before the New York State Surrogate’s Court. Her attentive and result-oriented approach consistently delivers tax-effective estate plans and successful resolutions of Surrogate’s Court proceedings.
In the business realm, Sarah’s advisory role extends to family and closely-held businesses, guiding them through operations, developments, succession planning, and expansion. Sarah has handled various real estate transactions, including the sale and leaseback of commercial property and transactions involving cooperative and condominium apartments in the New York City market.
Before Reid Scofield, Sarah managed her own firm for over 14 years, focusing on trusts and estates, closely-held businesses, and real estate matters, with New York and Denver offices, after working in the private client and business practice areas of New York law firms.
Actively engaged in professional organizations, Sarah is a member of the Rocky Mountain Estate Planning Council, the Estate Planning Council of New York City, and the Institute for Family Governance. She chairs and co-founded the Colorado Chapter of STEP (Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners) and serves on the Professional Advisors Committee for The Denver Foundation. As a Leaders Council Member of the UHNW Institute, she engages with thought-partners on fostering dynamic collaboration across the gamut of multigenerational family advisors.
She has been selected to present on New York Real Estate Brokerage Law for Congrès CNA in Montpellier, France, and Planned Giving and Charitable Organization CLEs with Literacy Partners Planned Giving and Hudson Valley Bank. Sarah served on the Opening Act Social Board and has volunteered as a speaker with W!SE Institute (Working in Support of Education), McGraw Hill’s Financial Literacy Now, and Young Women’s Network Career Day, and as a volunteer judge with the Empire City Invitational and ABA National Appellate Advocacy Moot Court Competition.
A member of the New York, Colorado and Washington State Bar Associations, Sarah earned her BSBA in International Business from the University of Denver and her J.D. from the University of Denver Law School.
